GB boxer Nicola Adams wins GOLD at Women’s EU Championships

The women’s GB Boxing squad secured a hat trick of medals – including two golds – at the EU Championships in Poland.
Facing the double World Champion Karolina Michalczuk on home turf in Poland, Nicola Adams produced a phenomenal performance to take England’s first gold of the tournament.
Flyweight Nicola, from Leeds, finished strongly, leaving the Polish Karolina to literally chase her around the ring, much to the amusement of the crowd.
An outstanding final round saw Nicola (Haringey ABC, London) pull away a lead on Karolina to record a score of 17:13.
It's a shame that Nicola had to miss this years ABAS due to international obligations but we at Haringey are over the moon that she won a Gold medal in the EU's. We are very proud of Nicola and see her as setting a trail for other female boxers, she is a great role model and is well on course to achieve her own dream of representing England in the Olympics of 2012.
Kingsley reminds us about the importance of boxing gyms and the work done.

Haringey PCABC Box Cup 2009
Haringey Police Community club have just successfully hosted the second Box Cup tournament at Ally Pally. Many months of hard work were spent putting the tournament together when we unfortunately had to contend with some last minute rule changes as our governing body insisted that boxers boxed the maximum of two consecutive days. The highly successful and original format (cleared by the chief executive last year) was to have quarter finals on Friday, Semi finals on Saturday and finals on Sunday; the rule enforcement meant groups had to be subdivided into no more than four participants and the shine was taken off the medal winners somewhat. Regardless of these changes the tournament was a great success for grass roots boxing. Clubs came from up and down the Country and we benefitted from much foreign opposition; France, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Ireland. The full entry list and results are now available. more...
